When pointing at the moon, never take your finger to be the moon

I'm a big fan of looking for root causes. It is tempting to get caught up in the events of the day or even this year:
the murder of George Floyd
long lines at food banks
high unemployment
the political divide
our racial problems
and so many more ...
The root cause
the murder of George Floyd Thou shalt not murder
long lines at food banks Thou shalt not covet thy neighbor’s goods.
high unemployment Thou shalt not steal
the political divide Thou shalt not bear false witness against thy neighbor
our racial problems 'Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength.' The second is this: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’ There is no commandment greater than these.
If we can't keep the ten laws how could we keep the ten thousand?
Until we start dealing with our problems at the root we are just trying to sweep back the
ocean with a broom without avail.
There is no political solution to an ethical problem.
